Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and his longtime business partner Dany Garcia made a blockbuster announcement which has led to a surge of excitement for football fans. The XFL and USFL, secondary football leagues that provide an opportunity for talented football players will now be merged to create a new league known as the UFL or United Football League. The duo announced the same on FOX earlier today.

This makes more sense as the aim of both the leagues has been to make football more popular, especially in the NFL off-season. It allows talented players and fans to enjoy the game; it has become a great platform to showcase the talents of underdogs who are unable to make it to the NFL, in some cases, it acts as a stepping stone for these players who intend to play in the NFL.

Tom Brady, former NFL quarterback, applauded this move by The Rock and Dany Garcia and believes that this move from both leagues is in the best interest of fans and athletes. He posted an Instagram story with the title stating, 

Great news for football! Congrats to the whole team

The USFL and XFL’s plans to merge has been in the works since September

Tom Brady is right on this as the XFL and USFL have a better opportunity to capture a larger viewership through a united front. The UFL will ensure that each team can have a larger market, more funding for teams, and better production from the top to bottom.

The USFL was brought back in 2021 while the XFL was taken over by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia after it faced bankruptcy in 2020. The UFL will make football bigger and better in the months when the NFL is not streaming. Dwayne Johnson responded to Tom Brady’s compliments by stating, 

Thank you, my brother. As always you are the GOAT.

The UFL’s debut season is scheduled to kickoff on the 30th of March 2024 and the opener will be played between the Arlington Renegades and the Birmingham Stallions, the defending champions of the XFL and the USFL, respectively. Spring football leagues have popped up in order to cater to fans’ desires to have football games throughout the year.
