Tom Brady is widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time. The New England Patriots legend has built a successful legacy over the last 2 decades. However, throughout his career, the 15-time Pro Bowl QB has seen his fair share of controversies. Even during his final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the veteran signal-caller came under fire for comparing NFL season to military deployment.

During the 2022 regular season, Tom Brady and the Buccaneers had a horrible season as they got bounced out of the postseason in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys. However, Brady himself had an uglier season than the Buccaneers. Back in October, Brady got a divorce from his now ex-wife Gisele Bündchen. Also in October, he came under fire over his NFL-military comparison.

“I almost look at like a football season like you’re going away on deployment in the military, and it’s like, ‘Man, here I go again.’ There’s only one way to do it,” said Brady during an episode of his Let’s Go podcast.

His comparison between playing an NFL season and military deployment did not sit well with many people. The 3-time league MVP quarterback was bashed on social media for comparing playing sports for a living with military deployment which offended a lot of people.

The former Buccaneers QB Tom Brady apologized for his comments

Following the massive backlash for his comments about NFL season and military deployment, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback had to walk back on his comparison and apologize for it. A few days after his comments went viral, Brady started a press conference with an apology to military personnel.

“Earlier this week I made a statement about playing football and the military, and it was a very poor choice of words,” Brady told reporters at a press conference. “I just want to express that to any sentiments out there that people may have taken it in a certain way, so I apologize.”

Throughout his final season in Tampa, Brady consistently made headlines for non-football reasons. Brady and Gisele’s divorce news was a major storyline during the 2022 season. Furthermore, Brady was also criticized for getting every Wednesday off due to personal reasons during the NFL season.

Nevertheless, Tom Brady and the Buccaneers ended up winning the week NFC South division for the second consecutive year but were eliminated by the Cowboys in the wildcard round of the playoffs. Soon after the Bucs’ elimination, Brady announced his retirement from playing football.
