The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2022/23 NFL season officially came to an end last week. The Buccaneers suffered a 31-14 defeat against the Dallas Cowboys in the Wildcard Round as Tom Brady failed to weave his magic in the playoffs.
Following the defeat, the biggest question to have risen was regarding their star quarterback’s immediate future. Tom Brady had one of the most turbulent seasons of his career this year.
The 45-year-old made a dramatic return to the NFL in March, 40 days after announcing his retirement from the sport. He rejoined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a decision which apparently brought trouble in his personal relationship with his wife, Gisele Bündchen.
The Brazilian model did not like his decision to return to the league, as she wanted to spend more time with him. This led to various arguments with the couple eventually ending their marriage in October.
Tom Brady wants to make a decision with a clear mind during the offseason
With so much to worry about, Brady’s performances on the field had taken a major dip during the initial weeks of the season. However, he returned to his top form to guide the Buccaneers to a top-spot finish in the NFC South division with an 8-9 record. Now that his season has come to an end, there’s another wave of speculations concerning his future.
A few of his Buccaneers teammates claimed that they had probably seen the last of Brady in a Bucs shirt. One teammate said, “I’d be surprised if he’s back.” Another opined, “He sounded like a person saying goodbye for good.”
Brady’s post-season press conference strung an odd chord, as he thanked the franchise for everything they’ve done throughout the season. He said, “I just want to say thank you guys for everything this year.”
Tom Brady has sprung many a surprise for his fans during his long 23-year career, and it would have to be one of those if he comes back to the Bucs for another season. Having not committed to anything as of now, he wants to take time and make a concrete decision having a clear mind.
The break from NFL duties will definitely help him in having a rational mind. A retirement could well be on the cards, as a bumper 375 million dollar deal awaits him, with Fox Sports, one which he signed last year.
However, if he decides to play on for another year, it would have to be in the form of a free agent and it’s very obvious that numerous franchises will be hunting for his signature cometh the offseason if the quarterback decides to act on it.
Fans of Tom Brady will simply hope that it wasn’t the last that they’ve seen of him on the gridiron and he has a fairytale ending that a player of his stature deserves.
