Seems like Travis Kelce isn’t happy with the media for asking to fire the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, whom he believes is one of the best coaches in the history of the league. Mike Tomlin, who has been with the Steelers since 2007, put together his 17th consecutive non-losing season.
After experiencing ups and downs throughout the season, the Steelers were able to pull off a 9-7 season record, all thanks to head coach Tomlin. However, a few people in the Pittsburgh media urged the six-time Super Bowl winners to move on from Tomlin.
When the news reached the ears of the Kansas City Chiefs star tight end, he got really angry as well as shocked by the media. During an episode on his podcast, New Heights, Kelce was discussing Tomlin’s amazing time at the Steelers, with his brother and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
When Jason asked his younger brother about the Pittsburgh media talking about firing Tomlin, Kelce unloaded directing to the media.
The media’s so dumb. Why do we do the media? Bunch of jacka**es. Just a bunch of jacka**es. Just out here talking f***ing nonsense. One of the best coaches the NFL’s ever even seen, about to possibly get his 17th consecutive non-losing season. Jesus Christ.Travis Kelce on New Heights
During his 17 years with the Steelers, Tomlin has done nothing but put everything in to build a competitive Steelers group. He has a career record of 172-100-2 in the regular season with a .639 winning percentage. This season as well, the Steelers have succeeded in claiming the tough AFC North division this season, along with a shot at securing the playoff berth.
Mike Tomlin under fire and rumored to leave Pittsburgh
When the Steelers hit a huge turbulence after being outscored by a losing team like the New England Patriots in week 14, that dropped them to a 7-6 record.
Many members of the Pittsburgh media went after head coach Tomlin and urged the franchise to fire him. One of those was longtime columnist and radio host Mark Madden, who said, “Coach Mike Tomlin should be fired the minute this wasted Steelers season ends,” asserting that the head coach deserves to be fired.
There were also some rumors about Tomlin’s potential trade from the Steelers, which Dianna Russini from The Athletic reported broaching in December, the last year 2023. However, since then, the Steelers have built a two-game winning streak with a likely chance to secure the playoffs spot.
