Travis Kelce still isn’t over the fact that his debut in the NFL could have been with the Cincinnati Bengals, but they didn’t pick him. And the tight end ended up with Kansas City Chiefs as one of their star players. Today, Kelce is known to be arguably the best tight end across the league, yet he regrets one decision taken by the Bengals in 2013.

Kelce entered the National Football League with a success-driven spirit, as he wanted to conquer a Super Bowl win and then earn the title of the best tight end to ever play in the league. One of those dreams came true last season, when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl title, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles. And as for the second, the tight end seemed to have received the praise quite a lot.

However, there was a time when Kelce’s ability was doubted, as he was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round as the 63rd pick, after being rejected by teams like the Bengals. And around a decade later today, it seems like Kelce still isn’t over the rejection he faced by the Bengals, who picked three other tight ends over him.

In a recent episode of the New Heights podcast alongside his brother Jason Kelce, the former Cincinnati graduate brought up the subject of his hard feelings towards the Bengals, ahead of the mega matchup on New Year’s Day. He said:

I look forward to playing them just because they're Cincinnati Bengals and I once was at University of Cincinnati and they picked the tight end over me in the drafts. And I just always..they definitely completely just said 'F**k you, Travis,' and they drafted the other tight ends and not me. You can't tell me that they didn't do that and I was sitting right there in the backyard.

The major part of the reason why Kelce is still not over the whole incident is because he was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and he had high chances of getting drafted by the Bengals. Yet they blew him off. As the Chiefs are up against them in the Monday Night Football game, it seems like Kelce isn’t going to take it lightly.

How Travis Kelce and the Chiefs can bounce back from Christmas loss and clinch playoff spot

In the last four games, the Chiefs have lost three, resulting in dropping their season-standing to 9-6. The team would have clinched the playoffs after the Christmas game against the Las Vegas Raiders, but only if they had scored a win. However, as it didn’t work out well, the team is looking forward to the upcoming game against the Bengals standing at 8-7.

To secure a spot in the playoffs, the Chiefs need to win at least one of their next two games, against the Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers. The team currently is the 9th-best in terms of yards per game of 355 yards. They have been efficient in converting their 3rd down 45% of the time.

Although the team’s offense has been struggling with no good receivers, the defense has been holding up pretty well. Kansas City’s defense is the second-best across the league allowing 17.7 points per game.
