Travis Kelce was fighting his tears on Monday in Philadelphia after hearing his brother Jason Kelce announce his retirement. The veteran Philadelphia Eagles called his time on his career after 13 years of establishing himself as one of the best centers ever to play in the league.
Jason was undeniably trying his best not to cry in front of the camera, but sitting in the front row, his younger brother, wearing black sunglasses, was frequently wiping his tears. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was accompanied by their mother, Donna Kelce, father, Ed Kelce, and Jason’s wife, Kylie Kelce.
Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com caught the emotional moment on camera. Shorr-Parks later shared the video on X (formerly Twitter). Jason was sharing a story about his draft by the Eagles, mentioning how Travis was a big part of his life growing up.
Jason Kelce recalls losing the Super Bowl to Travis Kelce’s Chiefs
The 36-year-old touched on several personal stories. During one particularly poignant moment, Kelce wore a sleeveless Eagles shirt and spoke about the immense heartbreak he went through after losing the Super Bowl to the Chiefs in 2023.
After taking a few deep breaths and recollecting his thoughts, the 7-time Pro Bowler said,
I won’t forget falling short to the Chiefs. The amount of pride I had that my brother climbed the mountaintop once again.
Jason carried on explaining that it’s always him and his brother. They didn’t have any cousins, and as a result, they had each other back.
It was my brother [Travis Kelce] and I [Jason Kelce] our whole lives. We did almost everything together: we competed, fought, laughed, cried, and learned from each other. We invented games and imagined ourselves as the star players of that time.
Both brothers dreamed of playing in the Super Bowl. They would often imagine themselves winning it in their heads.
Jason, with a muffled voice, told the audience as Travis held his mother’s hand-
We won countless Super Bowls in our minds before ever leaving the house.
He revealed how happy the Kelce household was when the Chiefs drafted Travis.
My brother received the call and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. the tears down both my father and I’s faces as my brother realized his own [dream of playing in the NFL].
The sibling bond between the two kept them going through both the highs and lows of not just being athletes, but also surviving in life.
There is no chance I’d be here without the bond Travis and I share. It made me stronger, tougher, smarter, and taught me the values of cooperation, loyalty, and patience.
Well, with that, the glittering career of a great football player came to an end. Perhaps he took Shaq’s advice to heart and made up his mind that it was time to hang up his cleats. But that doesn’t mean this will be the last time fans get to see him on a football field. Jason previously stated that he wants to get into coaching.
