Kansas City Super Bowl victory parade: something that ought to be day a celebration turned into a living nightmare after an unidentified opened fire. In those moments of fear, everyone including the Kansas City Chiefs players ran for their lives and the sudden rush of panic covered all eyes. 

But there were also people whose heroic acts saved many lives. Head coach Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes’ brother, Jackson comforted many distressed Chiefs fans. Another name added to that list is Trey Smith, who recently revealed how he helped bystanders, particularly children during the rush of evacuating the place.

In a conversation with Good Morning America, on Thursday, the Chiefs guard shared a few instances from the horrifying incident in Kansas City. As the shooting took place after Smith and his teammates had left the stage, they were rushed into Union Station by the security guards, stressing:

Along with the Chiefs player, there were also many fans in the melee who were settled in a closet for protection. Smith spotted a little kid, who was visibly in distress and offered him reassurance and comfort.

Smith recalled:

Right before I run in there, there's a little kid in front of me so I just grabbed him and yanked him up and said, 'You're hopping in here with me, buddy.’ I don't know how many people were in the closet, maybe 20-plus.

Looking at how much that little kid was scared and panicked, Smith, in absolute selflessness, handled over his WWE belt that he was wearing during the parade, and told the young boy:

Hey buddy, you're the champion. No one is gonna hurt you. No one's gonna hurt you, man. We got your back.

In the tragic incident, local radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan lost her life and more than 20 people were wounded, among which nine were children between the ages of six to fifteen. 

The Chiefs’ guard was totally shaken by the whole incident, especially by the torment felt by so many people who gathered there to celebrate the Chiefs’ victory. He expressed his sorrow for the families who faced the torment of this tragedy, saying:

I'm hurting for the families of the people who got impacted. Our hearts go out to you guys.
