“Embarrassing”: Antonio Hamilton’s PUNY tackle attempt over George Kittle irks Troy Aikman

Troy Aikman called out Antonio Hamilton for his dismal effort in attempting to take George Kittle down.

The San Francisco 49ers blew out the Arizona Cardinals in the Monday Night Football matchup in Mexico City. It was a game where Jimmy Garoppolo turned back the clock and played a near-perfect match. He made a case for why he should continue to be the man for the 49ers for the foreseeable future.

Jimmy G threw for 4 touchdowns and passed for 228 yards. However, it was not just Garoppolo’s mind-blowing performance that left us in awe. It was the lack of drive on the part of the Arizona Cardinals that shocked fans and veteran players alike.

Troy Aikman, the former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys who was on call for ESPN along with Joe Buck was not happy with the Cardinals, especially the defense after a play in which TE George Kittle caught a pass and effortlessly made it to the end zone. The 32-yard touchdown was one that defensive back Antonio Hamilton allowed with rather ease.

Hamilton had a clear-cut shot to tackle Kittle and possibly take him down, but he did not do that for reasons unknown. He seemed to rather let Kittle slip by easily and convert on the play. Troy Aikman saw the replay of this particular pass and was not happy with the effort of the defensive back.

The sports commentator was furious and did not hold back either. “This is embarrassing for the Arizona Cardinals, at the end of this play… Antonio Hamilton doesn’t come up after all the tackles he made last week and even try to make an attempt on George Kittle. They’re a losing football team, and they’re playing like one on that play.”

Aikman was not wrong. The defensive back could have attempted to take Kittle out by hitting him harder, but that did not happen. In Hamilton’s defense, he appeared to have lost his balance a bit when Brandon Aiyuk pushed him in the back, which may have altered his aim and set him off course.

This play was a pivotal one, as the Cardinals needed to put their best foot forward to attempt to make a comeback. With this loss, Arizona falls 4-7 this season and at this point in the season, it is important for the team to value every game and attempt to win every matchup. Will the Arizona Cardinals succeed in making a playoff push? Only time can tell.
