The No.1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft Trevor Lawrence is having a rough time against the tough Los Angeles Chargers defense in their wildcard matchup. The Jacksonville Jaguars, under the leadership of Doug Pederson, somehow managed to clinch the AFC South, thus claiming a spot in the NFL postseason after a rough 3-7 start to their season.
The Jaguars managed to go 6-1 in their last 7 games as they won five consecutive games to close out their season. Their franchise QB had a decent outing as the Clemson product threw for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns while completing 66.3% of his passes. All of those numbers had a massive improvement compared to his rookie campaign.
Everything was going well for the Jacksonville-based franchise and Lawrence until it wasn’t. The second-year QB started his first NFL playoff game against the Chargers in the wildcard game and it all went south from the first possession of the game. The game started with a tipped-off ball which turned into an interception and that set the tone for the rest of the first half as Lawrence went on to throw four interceptions in the first half.
Social Media reacts to Trevor Lawrence’s abysmal outing
The second-year QB had the worst half of his professional career as he put up a stat line of 77 yards, 1 TD, and 4 INTs in the first half with a hideous 24.5 QB rating against a fairly tough Chargers defense.
The Chargers’ second-year cornerback Asante Samuel Jr picked off Lawrence 3 times in the first half alone. He became the first defensive player to have 3 interceptions in a playoff game since 2004.
On the flip side of the ball game, the third-year QB Justin Herbert and the Chargers had no problem moving the ball. Herbert, who is also playing in his first NFL playoff game, has thrown for 139 yards and 1 touchdown in the first half and their star running back Austin Ekeler scored two rushing touchdowns in one half.
The Chargers took a commanding 27-7 lead against the Jaguars in the first half. It will be tough for the Jacksonville-based football team climb up the deep hole they dug for themselves.
