The Baltimore Ravens fell agonizingly short of their playoff dreams, courtesy of a 24-17 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. In a game that had a lot riding on it, not only in terms of playoff spots but also franchise rivalry in recent times John Harbaugh‘s side came second.

John Harbaugh’s Ravens pushed the Bengals all the way up until 17-17 but in the end, it wasn’t enough. After the game, the head coach did not want to hang around the field for much longer, sorely bitten by the fangs of defeat.

The 60-year-old continued his tradition of quick handshakes with rival head coaches and backroom staff. It was very clearly on show against the Bengals as he simply stormed past Zac Taylor after the defeat.

The customary act of shaking an opponent’s hand has been an integral part of most sports, as it shows mutual respect between both parties. However, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh does not seem to be a big believer in doing them after the games, and especially after his side has lost a crucial playoff game.

Harbaugh’s Ravens have had a bit of recent history against the Bengals, but the fans did not like his actions one bit. Some of them even speculated that this might have been his last handshake as the head coach of the Ravens.

Twitter Reacts to John Harbaugh’s quick handshake with Zac Taylor

John Harbaugh earned himself the spotlight even before the handshake incident on Sunday night. The head coach gave a cold interview to NBC reporter Melissa Stark between the first and second quarters.

At the time, the Ravens were trailing the Bengals by a margin of three points and Harbaugh gave sarcastic and cold responses to Stark, who asked him questions about the latest penalty imposed on them. The interview showed how Harbaugh might have been pissed off ever since the start of the game, even though his side would later stage a comeback to level the scores 17-17 at one point.

The head coach also copped criticism for their inability to surge ahead from that point onwards as they lost the opportunity courtesy of a botched quarterback sneak by Tyler Huntley. He later went on to claim that their initial plan was to go low, but Huntley made the mistake of going over the top.
