The New York Jets had a slightly better season last year than they did back in 2021. The Jets ended their campaign with a 7-10 record. The defense was one of the best in the league with absolute units like Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, and Carl Lawson.

The defense was ranked fourth overall in points allowed per game with 18.6. However, the offense lacked some serious firepower and can be held responsible for the team continuing their 12-year playoff drought.

Now, the Jets have gone all out this offseason and signed a lot of stars on the offense and are in the middle of acquiring 4x NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers from the Packers. While it’s been over a month of negotiations with the Packers, the Jets are still hopeful of pulling off the trade and having Rodgers under center for the coming season.

Sauce Gardner was selected 4th overall by the Jets in the 2022 NFL draft. Gardner showed his worth right off the bat as he recorded 75 tackles, 20 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions in his rookie season. His exceptional performance won him the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

With winning DROY, Sauce Gardner now has his eyes set on the league MVP Award. This is a really long shot for anyone but the quarterback on the offense let alone a cornerback at that. NFL MVP is predominantly a quarterback award. In the game’s history, only two defensive players have won the prestigious award: Alan Page in 1971 as a defensive tackle, and Lawrence Taylor as a linebacker in 1986.

The 22-year-old was heavily roasted on Twitter for dreaming of winning the league MVP after just one good season. Here’s how they reacted.

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp had the best season in 2021 a wide receiver could ever have. He won the receiving triple crown, Offensive Player of the Year and he still wasn’t awarded the league MVP. Be it far for a cornerback to win the award. Well, at least a guy can dream!
