“Am I listening to Joe Biden or Jim Irsay,” NFL Twitter Hilariously trolls Colts owner’s bizarre Jeff Saturday press conference announcement
The Indianapolis Colts are going through a tough phase in their season as a franchise. With results not going in their favor, owner Jim Irsay made the ultimate decision to fire head coach Frank Reich on Monday.
The Colts are currently 3-5-1 this season, and three defeats on the bounce were enough for Jim Irsay to make the drastic call. The Colts even announced an interim head coach that day itself and the name has left fans bewildered, to say the least.
Irsay named Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach, despite the former Pro Bowl center having very little experience being a head coach. The only experience Saturday does have was with Hebron Christian Academy in Georgia.
Jim Irsay appointed inexperienced Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach in a move that has raised numerous questions
However, his lack of experience seemed to work in his favor of him, as Irsay explained during the press conference. The press conference was a thing of beauty and something to be treasured by the fans, with Irsay making outrageous comments to justify his choice.
While most of the franchises, or 99 percent of recruiters, look to hire people who have had some experience in the role, Jim Irsay seems to follow a different path. He argued that since Saturday doesn’t have any experience coaching in the NFL, he wouldn’t be fearful in this highly competitive league, a comment which drew plenty of reactions from the fans.
He explained, “I’m glad he doesn’t have any NFL experience. I’m glad he hasn’t learned the fear in this league. Because it’s tough for all our coaches. They’re afraid. They go to analytics. And it gets difficult. He doesn’t have all that. He doesn’t have that fear.”
Fans also pointed out an error in the mathematical calculations done by Irsay after he claimed the Colts were amongst the upper quartile of winners. “Look we’re the fourth-winningest franchise in the league since 2000. That means in the upper quartile of winners were in the top quartile of that upper quartile,” Irsay said.
