The Jacksonville Jaguars have done it! They won against the Los Angeles Chargers and will now advance to the next round of the playoffs. Easily one of the best games of the Super Wild Card weekend. After trailing 27-0 in the first half of the game, the Jaguars made a comeback fit for the history books and snatched victory away from the Chargers.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had trouble connecting with his own receivers, but he didn’t break a sweat while throwing right into the hands of the Chargers’ defenders. Lawrence threw a total of 4 interceptions in the first half of the game. For context, he had just eight picks in 17 games.
While the Chargers didn’t have things go down as they would’ve loved to, Asante Samuel Jr. created history in the first half of the game itself. He caught 3 of Lawrence’s 4 interceptions and became the first player in NFL history to record three picks in the first half of a playoff game.
Asante Samuel Jr.’s three turnovers weren’t enough for the Chargers to win the game
Asante was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft. During his rookie season, Samuel had just one interception. The 23-year-old cornerback has been consistent in making tackles and deflecting passes, but his first playoff appearance was his best performance yet. He caught three interceptions off of Trevor Lawrence, two of which were converted into touchdowns by the Chargers’ offense securing them a 27-0 lead.
Despite having a huge lead, Jacksonville was able to recover and dominate in the second half of the game. Quarterback Lawrence made up for the picks by throwing 4 touchdown passes and securing important first downs in the fourth quarter.
Fans on Twitter have been going bonkers on Asante Samuel Jr. creating history and catching three interceptions. They are equally praising the Chargers’ cornerback and trolling Trevor Lawrence.
Asante Samuel Jr. is the son of former Super Bowl champion, Asante Samuel. His father had seven career interceptions in the playoffs and is tied for the sixth most in league history.
