Chase Young is a family guy and likes to keep his personal matters out of the limelight. Since his move from his hometown of Washington to the Bay Area, his family has not had much chance to watch him play.
Young was in Pennsylvania on Sunday night to play against the Philadelphia Eagles. So some of his family members decided to cover a three-hour road trip and drop by Lincoln Financial Field to watch the 24-year-old play.
Even though Young did not have much impact on the game, the San Francisco 49ers recorded a blowout 42-19 victory over the Eagles. After the game, he spotted a few familiar faces in the crowd and went over to them. Carla, his mother, hunched forward to kiss her son on the cheek. The much-awaited reunion was going well until something unexpected happened.
A blonde woman wearing a 49ers #16 jersey started pulling on his left arm. It’s unclear what she was saying to Young. To the Niners defensive end’s credit, he did not pay any attention to her and kept his attention limited to only his family members. The woman eventually gave up and left.
Chase Young loves his mother
The Washington Commanders drafted Chase Young as the second overall pick in the 2020 season. He was a four-star recruit from Ohio State and had won several accolades, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is given to the best college defender.
Even though he was playing for his hometown franchise, his family could not watch him play due to COVID-19 restrictions. He had a stellar debut campaign, recording 44 tackles and 7.5 sacks and winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Young decided to surprise his mother with a gift, which he had been eyeing since he went pro. He gave both his mother, Carla, and father, Greg, brand new cars. Naturally, they were ecstatic to receive such precious things from their son.
“My first dream was to make it to the NFL. This was my second… #AllGod,” Young wrote on his Instagram with a video of his mother getting emotional after seeing the gift.
On November 1st, the Commanders decided to trade Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2024 third-round draft pick. As per the Athletic, Young signed a four-year, $34 million, fully guaranteed contract.
