The NFL is known to be the most competitive and physical league in the country. The teams playing in the league are all competing at the same level and anyone can win at any given time, this makes the league special and unique from the other sporting leagues around.
The league has also seen some iconic comebacks throughout the course of history. However, the major action happens during the playoffs where selected teams fight it out for the infamous Super Bowl and all the glory around it.
The Jaguars recently beat the Chargers by orchestrating one of the best playoff comebacks of all time. However, this 27-point comeback wasn’t even the best one as many iconic comebacks have ruled the hearts of many fans.
The recent iconic performance by the Jaguars made us take a look down memory lane and look at all the iconic comebacks that have happened in the NFL playoff history. Let’s take a look at the 5 of the best biggest comebacks in playoff history down below.
5. Kansas City Chiefs 51-31 Houston Texans, 2018 AFC Divisional round (24-point deficit)

In 2018, the Chiefs and Texans were up against each other for the AFC divisional round. QB Deshaun Watson led the Texans to an incredible 24-point lead at the start of the game. Just before the two quarters were up, the Texans led the Chiefs by 24 points.
The victory was in their grasp. However, the Chiefs and young QB Patrick Mahomes had other plans. The prolific QB led the Chiefs to an incredible comeback which was so iconic that the team even went on to win the Super Bowl. However, this wasn’t even the biggest comeback in the AFC as the next one is even better.
4. New England Patriots 34-28 Atlanta Falcons, 2017 NFL Super Bowl (25-point deficit)

The NFL Super Bowl is one of the most intense games of the year as the two teams fight it out for the formidable Lombardi Trophy and all the glory that comes with it. The 2017 Super Bowl included the Tom Brady-led Patriots against the Falcons.
This was also the year after the deflate-gate scandal and the legendary QB had a point to prove. However, the game wasn’t going the Patriots’ way as they were down by 25 points with no hopes in sight.
Although the Patriots had no hope, they had Tom Brady and that’s even better. The legendary QB led the team to an incredible 25-point comeback which helped them grab the Lombardi Trophy right from Roger Goodell’s hands.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars 31-30 Los Angeles Chargers, 2023 AFC Wild-Card (27-point deficit)

The most recent matchup on the list. The Jaguars had pulled a miracle this season that helped them qualify for the playoffs. However, it wasn’t enough as what happened in the wild-card game was even more iconic.
The Chargers were up by 27 points before half-time. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence had thrown 4 interceptions in the first half itself that allowed the Chargers to gain so many points.
However, QB Lawrence arrived on the field in the second half with renewed vigor and passion. The Jaguars rookie led the team to an incredible 27-point comeback that will be talked about for years.
2. Indianapolis Colts 45-44 Kansas City Chiefs, AFC Wild Card 2014 (28-point deficit)

The year was 2014 and the Colts were looking to deal some serious damage in the wild-card playoffs to the Chiefs. However, the reality is often disappointing as the Colts were down 38-10 at the end of the third quarter.
With just over 15 minutes left, things looked bleak for the Colts. However, QB Andrew Luck had lady luck on his side and the rest is history. The Colts regained their composure and played extremely dominating football resulting in their win during OT. The end score was 45-44.
1. Buffalo Bills 41-38 Huston Oilers, 1993 NFL AFC Wild-Card (31-point deficit)

The biggest and oldest comeback of all time takes the top spot. This game was legendary and is even talked about now. The Bills’ upset with the Oilers has become a benchmark by which other comebacks are analyzed with.
The Bills were trailing the Oilers 35-3 in the third quarter of the AFC wild-card matchup. Even the best and most positive players would have lost hope during that time. Even some of the Bills players would have lost hope.
However, history was to be made that day as the Bills took their best chance and delivered the best NFL playoffs comeback of all time. Since 1993 there hasn’t been a single comeback better than this and likely won’t ever be.
