The Los Angeles Rams currently have a 3-5 record through the first 8 weeks of the ongoing NFL season. In their hunt for a playoff spot, the Rams will take on the struggling 2-5 Green Bay Packers in their week 9 matchup on Sunday. Ahead of their matchup, the Rams fans receive unpleasant news on the injury front as their star quarterback Matthew Stafford gets listed as questionable in their injury report.

According to ESPN, Stafford is unlikely to play in the Rams’ week 9 game against the Packers on Sunday. Stafford’s dealing with the thumb injury, which he suffered during the Rams’ week 8 loss against the Dallas Cowboys. He is listed as questionable and is unlikely to play on Sunday. But the Rams haven’t made an official decision on his availability and are giving him all the time he needs before deciding on his return. His availability will be a game-time decision.

Just a few days ago, reports suggested it “would have been unthinkable” for Stafford to play this weekend, but the Rams quarterback has made good progress in his recovery. Furthermore, Stafford has expressed his desire to play in the crucial game, but the team considers it as a highly challenging move.

Who will be the starting QB of the Rams in the absence of Matthew Stafford?

Matthew Stafford playing in the Rams’ week 9 matchup against the Packers will be a game-time decision, according to multiple reports. If he gets ruled out, second-stringer Brett Rypien is expected to take over the starting QB job.

Rypien got some game time against the Cowboys in week 8 and completed 5 of his 10 pass attempts for 42 yards. He would take over the starting QB job while Dresser Winn is expected to get dressed as the backup.

Losing Stafford will be a huge blow for the Los Angeles-based football team. So, they will be very careful about how they handle his injury situation. The Rams are heading into a bye in week 10, so, if Stafford misses Sunday’s game, he will get 2 weeks to completely recover from his injury.

Nonetheless, if Stafford fails to take the field on Sunday, Brett Rypien would look to lead the Rams to a victory against the Packers. This will be just the 3rd start of Rypien’s NFL career and he would look to make the most of it.
