For a change, football fans will be entertained with two NFL games simultaneously on December 11, ‘Monday Night Football’. In one of those games, the New York Giants will host the Green Bay Packers in East Rutherford, which will be telecast on ABC and streamed on the ESPN+ app.
The other match will be a crucial AFC tie between the Miami Dolphins and the Tennessee Titans at Hard Rock Stadium, broadcast live on ESPN. Now the question is why the NFL is hosting two games on Monday night. According to an ESPN press release from Lily Blum, the league aims to make Monday more exciting for football fans.
Blum also mentioned that the “Monday Night Football” broadcast booth of Joe Buck (play-by-play), Troy Aikman (analyst), and Lisa Salters (sideline reporter) will be the main cast as per usual at MetLife Stadium. As for the encounter in South Beach, the talented lineup of Chris Fowler (play-by-play), Louis Riddick (analyst), Dan Orlovsky (analyst), and Laura Rutledge (sideline reporter) will keep everyone up to date.
Why are there two Monday night football matches on December 11?
Football on Monday night means the return of the favorite brother duo of Peyton Manning and Eli Manning on ‘Monday Night Manning Cast.’ It’s one of the shows that has become synonymous with football, with so many famous names auditioning to be part of it.
However, according to Mike Florio of NBC Sports, the show has lost a chunk of its viewership in its third year of existence. It seems broadcasters are looking to boost the Manning brothers’ appeal more by adding a second game on the day. Now they can use their big-brain quarterback knowledge to break things down for the audience.
Adding to the first-ever side-by-side Monday Night Football event, Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli (ESPN2 and ESPN+) will offer fans the ability to watch both games simultaneously.as per ESPN Press Room
This should be music to the ears of people living on the East Coast (eastern time zone). Both the games will likely wrap up around 11:30, and they won’t have to worry too much about an additional game on the West Coast, which usually runs late until 1 a.m.
Meanwhile, the NFL games have been breaking records this season. According to NBC network data, the week 13 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers was the most ever for ‘NBC+Peacock’ streaming. It averaged nearly 26 million views.
