Almost a year after XFL and USFL revived their operations, both leagues are now moving forward with a big announcement. USFL, which was revived back in 2022, and the XFL, which was revived the same year by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and others, are now planning to go ahead with a merger that will combine both leagues in a massive news for Spring football in the United States.

In a joint statement released by the XFL and the USFL, both leagues have announced their intentions to merge the two leagues and grow together instead of competing against each other.

“Today, the United States Football League (“USFL”) and the XFL announced their intention to merge,” said both leagues in a joint statement. “Subject to customary regulatory approvals and if the transaction is consummated, the new league will establish best-in-class operations based on the most recent seasons of both leagues.”

Furthermore, they also added that the historic merger will help the leagues conduct a great football tournament with substantial resources and help the development of players, coaches, and everyone else involved.

“This historic combination will anchor professional spring football with substantial capabilities and resources to ensure future growth and continue to enhance the development of the collective players, coaches, and staff that are coming together,” the leagues said in a statement.

There is no other news available regarding whether all the franchises will play in their home cities at this moment. Both leagues have a team based in Houston and the leagues will have to make a decision on which team will get to continue playing based in the city of Texas.

The USFL, which is aided by Fox Sports and Dwayne Johnson’s XFL recently announced their plans to merge both leagues and grow together. They also said more news about the merger will be released at a later date.

Both the USFL and the XFL have 8 teams each competing for the championship. So, ideally, 16 franchises are expected to be a part of this historic merger and compete for a championship. Since the USFL is aided by Fox Sports, they are expected to get the television deal, but there’s no official news about that yet.

The new football league’s first season is expected to start in 2024 and will be played in Spring when the NFL will be in the off-season. Fans see this merger as a win-win-win for both leagues and millions of football enthusiasts all around the country. Furthermore, a new big league will also help college football players who go undrafted and unsigned by an NFL team after their collegiate career.
