YouTube set to be the front-runner in scoring the NFL Sunday Ticket deal following DISPUTE with DirecTV

NFL is the most watched league throughout America with millions of viewers watching each game with sheer passion and thorough interest. Therefore, the companies that get broadcasting rights earn lots of money through subscriptions and packages.
NFL Sunday ticket is the most prestigious program in the league. It is regarded as better than ESPN’s Monday Night Football and Amazon’s Thursday Night Football. Currently, DirecTV holds the rights for Sunday Ticket, however, it will soon change as the deal is set to expire next season. DirecTV used to pay around $1.5 billion yearly to the league just so they can broadcast the games.
However, consistent losses due to different streaming services and the lash-out with AT&T have caused DirecTV to back out from the NFL Sunday Ticket deal.
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, Google’s YouTube is set to be the front-runner in the race to score the NFL Sunday Ticket. The deal is set to be done sometime this week. If successful, YouTube will hold the keys to 13 high-profile NFL games every week.
Google is considering paying around $2.5 billion yearly to the league just so they can get the broadcasting rights. This is way more than what DirecTV was paying the league.
Apple and Disney were also in competition with YouTube to secure the NFL Sunday Ticket deal
NFL Sunday Ticket deal can turn out to be the most prestigious sports deal made in the country, as football is the most watched sport in the US. Therefore, there was bound to be some competition, and it was between the Goliath media companies who were fighting it out.
At one point in time, Apple, Disney, and Google all were in the running for the deal. However, Apple backed out due to the NFL’s policy of pricing restrictions and incredible broadcasting costs, on the other hand. Disney already has a deal with ESPN with Monday Night Football.
This leaves out Google, who will surely secure the package, and probably people will have to buy a YouTube premium membership just to watch the games live. However, this makes things difficult for all the bars and public places where matches are watched. Though it is believed, Google will work out a way to ease out that problem.
The pricing of the YouTube NFL package is still debated as it can be somewhere upwards of $300 a year as that watches DirecTV used to charge the viewers to watch the game. Nonetheless, all things considered, it will be great to watch the NFL live on YouTube.
