“Massive Blow” – N’Keal Harry set to undergo surgery for a high-ankle sprain, expected to miss eight weeks
N'Keal Harry
N’Keal Harry had hoped that after his dissatisfactory time in New England, his time with the Chicago Bears would be magical. However, the Bears’ latest addition to their roster suffered a high-ankle sprain on Saturday.
Harry is said to undergo tightrope surgery on Thursday to recover his knee as reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media. Recovering from this injury will take at least two months and Harry is set to miss a minimum of eight weeks of the 2022 season.
N’Keal Harry is to miss first eight weeks of the 2022 season
N’Keal Harry was selected as the last pick of the first round of the 2019 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. His time with the Patriots was sub-par as he didn’t have a more central role within the team’s offense. In 2021, Harry played just 12 games with four starts and ended the season with 12 passes for 184 yards.
On May 2, 2022, the Patriots declined the fifth-year option on Harry’s rookie contract making him a free agent at the end of the 2022 season. Consequently, the 24-year-old was traded to the Chicago Bears for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. N’Keal Harry is said to have a larger role in Chicago’s offense and the wideout said that he was grateful for a “much-needed fresh start.”
Harry’s injury requires him to undergo tightrope surgery. According to Southern California Orthopedic Institute, tightrope surgery is a technique “used to stabilize an ankle after injury. It can be used to repair a high-ankle sprain, which damages the soft tissue structures between the tibia and fibula and causes these bones to separate … The TightRope system anchors the ends of the tibia and fibula together with a braided polyethylene cord, rather than with a rigid surgical screw, to restore the original position of the bones and to allow for proper healing.”
Let’s hope the young wide receiver recovers from his injury quickly and shows the world that his talents were wasted in New England.
