“No sales discussions happening” – Jody Allen, chair of the Seattle Seahawks makes it abundantly clear that the team is NOT FOR SALE
Jody Allen, chair of the Seattle Seahawks
Jody Allen, chair of the Seattle Seahawks and trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust made it crystal clear on Tuesday that neither the Seattle Seahawks nor the Portland Trail Blazers is up for sale. After her brother, Paul Allen died, there were rumors about the available teams being sold at auction. Hence the need to clear the air once and for all.
Allen who became the de-facto owner of the Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers after the passing of her brother Pual said in her statement, “As we’ve stated before, neither of the teams is for sale and there are no sales discussions happening.”
Seattle Seahawks to be sold off in the next 10-20 years
“As chair of both the Portland Trail Blazers and the Seattle Seahawks, my long-term focus is building championship teams that our communities are proud of,” Jody Allen said. “Like my brother Paul, I trust and expect our leaders and coaches to build winning teams that deliver results on and off the court and field.
“A time will come when that changes given Paul’s plans to dedicate the vast majority of his wealth to philanthropy, but estates of this size and complexity can take 10 to 20 years to wind down. There is no pre-ordained timeline by which the teams must be sold. Until then, my focus — and that of our teams — is on winning.”
Paul Allen, the co-founder of tech giant Microsoft Corporation, bought the Seattle Seahawks in 1997 and the Portland Trail Blazers in 1988. Ever since the Walton-Penner family bought the Denver Broncos for a historic $4.65 billion, questions about the Seahawks’ ownership started to rise. It was necessary for Jody Allen to release the statement after it was reported that Nike founder Phil Knight, had reportedly offered $2 billion for the Trail Blazers.
Paul Allen had donated over $2 billion to causes such as education, wildlife, environmental conservation, the arts, healthcare, and community services. These two teams are also expected to be sold off eventually but not at this moment as Jody stated.
