‘Our best football is still in front of Us’, QB Matt Ryan confident of the Atlanta Falcons making it to the NFC playoffs
Over the previous three seasons, the Atlanta Falcons haven’t played any significant games in December, but that will change this season. Or at least, their quarterback Matt Ryan believes so.
The Falcons improved to 5-6 with a 21-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, putting them among a large group of teams vying for NFC Wild Card positions as we enter the last month of 2021.
When the club was 0-2 and had lost back-to-back in their past two games, it looked an improbable place for them to be. But head coach Arthur Smith emphasized looking at “the big picture” of being in the postseason hunt.
‘We’re Right In The Mix’
In a recent interview published on the Atlanta Falcons’ official website, Ryan said, “It’s all you can ask for. If you tell me in the beginning of the year that we’re right in the mix in December, that’s where you want to be. I think our best football is still in front of us. We’re going to get there. But, with six games to go and we’re right in the mix, with December starting next week, sign me up. I’m ready for that. It’s going to be a fun couple of weeks.”

What’s waiting for the Falcons in December?
The Falcons are yet to defeat a side with a winning record, which will almost probably have to alter if they are to stay in contention into December. They have a chance to do so at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday. And if they do, it will bolster confidence in the Falcons’ ability to stay in the postseason race until the finish.
It will be a sharp contrast to last year, when the Falcons were in the midst of a very bad season in which they suffered terribly, lost numerous heartbreaking games, and had a head coach dismissed during the campaign.
As the calendar rolls through November, the Falcons are right in the ‘mix’ of the NFC playoff race with six games remaining. Only a win in Jacksonville would have made that feasible. But the work is still undone. They must continue flourishing in the upcoming month.
