“Jimmy G to Seahawks?”: Reportedly, the Seahawks are seriously contemplating adding Jimmy Garoppolo to the roster

Jimmy Garoppolo
The Seattle Seahawks are in dire need of a seasoned quarterback for the 2022 season after they had to trade their perennial Pro Bowler, Russell Wilson. The decision to trade Wilson to Denver Broncos was made completely by the QB as stipulated in his contract with the Seahawks. Wilson’s relationship with Pete Carroll began to deteriorate and he had apparently “checked out” as reported by his teammates.
After their trade with the Broncos, the Seahawks have Drew Lock and Geno Smith to look forward to in the upcoming season. The fact that Seattle is in the market for a QB isn’t hidden and they have tried every possible move they can think of and come up shorthanded. But as per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, the Seahawks had an internal discussion about the possibility of signing Jimmy Garoppolo.
The 49ers have been looking to trade Jimmy Garoppolo for the past half year and this might be the perfect opportunity

Ever since Russell Wilson left the Seahawks, the team has been looking for a replacement and there were plenty of rumors as to which QB will set up shop in Seattle for the 2022 season. It was reported that the organization was interested in Baker Mayfield and former NFL MVP Cam Newton. The Seahawks were never really interested in Mayfield and now he was picked off by the Carolina Panthers, the team can’t even turn towards Newton who has been a free agent for quite some time now as experts have started to question his skillset after being dormant for a long duration.
However, as per new reports, the Seahawks have now turned their eye towards division rival San Franciso 49ers and might be interested in Jimmy Garoppolo. After four seasons as a backup to Tom Brady in New England, Garoppolo was traded to the 49ers in 2017. Joining the team in Week 12, Jimmy G led a 1-10 team to five consecutive victories. He then guided them to their first NFC top seed since 1997 and starred in Super Bowl LIV but got defeated at the hands of the mighty Kansas City Chiefs.

There’s no second-guessing that Jimmy G is a good QB, but after being flooded with injuries and a lofty asking price, the 49ers have been looking to get rid of him for the past six months and the star QB has also made peace with the team and is looking for a new destination. And it looks like the Seahawks might give him a chance to showcase his skills. The Seahawks have done their homework on their trivial team and it isn’t decided whether they wish to move forward with the trade of Jimmy G or not.
The trade could happen one of two ways – Either both teams agree to a trade or if the 49ers cut Garoppolo and the Seahawks sign him as a free agent. Intra-division trades aren’t that common and have happened only twice in the past two decades. The Patriots traded quarterback Drew Bledsoe to the Bills in 2002 and the Eagles sent quarterback Donovan McNabb to Washington in 2010.
Nothing is set in stone as of yet and the challenge for both teams would be to find the right trade compensation and contract for Garoppolo. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out and whether the Seahawks will have a QB who has previously led a team to the Super Bowl or by some guys who have never played in the playoffs before.
