Super Bowl LVI breaks records in viewership numbers
Super Bowl LVI
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events in the United States and that is always represented by its viewership. However, for Super Bowl LV last year, the event saw a bit of a dip. But, Super Bowl LVI bounced back well and even set new records.
The game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams was played in SoFi Stadium, home of the Rams. So, the NFL had its perfect market for the game and the home team in it. Naturally, this resulted in great numbers and that was helped by the game too.
The thrilling matchup finished 23-20 to the Rams with a nail-biting finish as Aaron Donald got Joe Burrow on 4th down, stopping the quarterback from completing a pass to keep Cincy’s hopes alive and iced the game. While there was a whole lot of defense in it, it was entertaining throughout and it showed.
Super Bowl LVI sets an all time high for streaming and digital audience
The total viewership that NBC recorded was 99.18 million viewers while Telemundo brought in 1.91 million taking the total TV audience to 101.09 million.
Streaming platforms Peacock, NBC Sports, and NFL properties brought in an additional 11.21 million taking the grand total to 112.3 million viewers. The most since Super Bowl XLIX had 114.44 million. The 11.21 million from streaming platforms is almost double the 5.7 million from last year’s game marking some serious success as well as a record high.
Super Bowl | Network | Average viewers (Millions) |
LII | NBC | 103.47 |
LIII | CBS | 98.48 |
LIV | FOX | 101.32 |
LV | CBS | 95.2 |
LVI | NBC | 100.2 |
In terms of last year’s viewership, Super Bowl LVI gained by 16.5% percent over the 94.8 million viewers for Super Bowl LV. Last year’s game was so poor that it was the lowest total audience since 2007.
It’s safe to say the NFL and NBC are quite glad that the Los Angeles market got to host the Super Bowl and also had a team playing in it. Both of those factors contributed to significant success compared to last year as well as historically and the NFL will hope the trend continues next year in Arizona.
