“Bigger than football” – Texans WR Jalen Camp honors teammate John Metchie after scoring a TD against the Saints

Jalen Camp and John Metchie
Football season has officially started with the commencement of the preseason. Games are being played again, and fans are pouring into the stadium to cheer their teams on. It’s great to have the football spirit in the air after a long break.
Today’s Houston Texans matchup against the New Orleans Saints perfectly summed up the football spirit. The game was neck to neck with both the games tying heading into the fourth quarter. However, the Texans got the upper hand in the last quarter and emerged victorious. The extraordinary gesture made by Texans wide receiver Jalen Camp was the highlight of the game.
Jalen Camp honors John Metchie who was diagnosed with leukemia

Jalen Camp, wideout of the Texans caught an easy preseason touchdown until his celebration. Camp caught a 40yard TD pass from QB Jeff Driskel and decided to honor his teammate John Metchie III. After adding 6 points to the Texans scoreboard, Camp went on and struck the same pose as Metchie would after scoring a TD in Alabama. This gesture by Camp won everyone’s hearts.
The reason is, that Metchie was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia this July. John Metchie was selected by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. Just before starting his rookie season, Metchie announced that he won’t be playing in the 2022 season because he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia.
“Recently I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia,” Metchie said in a statement released by the Texans. “I am currently receiving great medical care, am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and well-wishes. I cannot wait to come back stronger than ever. God bless.”
This was truly a heartwarming gesture by Camp. After the game, the Saints players joined the Texans and prayed for the recovery of Metchie. This really teared up my eyes. Can’t hate the Saints after this!
