Joe Burrow is the man to be right now. The Bengals quarterback is the most talked about player in the NFL right now. He has been an amazing player and leader this season as he leads Cincinnati to their first Super Bowl since 1988.

The 25-year old QB has been receiving applause from everyone in the league. The latest person to join Burrow’s long list of admirers is Ron Rivera, head coach for the Washington Commanders.

“I didn’t know he’d get there his second year” – Ron Rivera surprised as Joe Burrow leads the Bengals to the Super Bowl in his second year

“He’s more than capable. I mean he really is”, Rivera said on the show Good Morning Football. “I mean we’ve felt that there were two guys. We had both of them at the top and we had both of them lined next to each other. When I interviewed him, I told him he was either gonna be 1 or 2. And Cincinnati did what they did. Obviously, they’ve got their franchise quarterback. He’s shown to be exactly what a lot of people thought he would be. Honestly, I didn’t know he’d get there his second year.”

Joe Burrow was selected No. 1 overall by Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL draft while Washington Commanders had the No. 2 pick in Chase Young. If the Commanders had the No. 1 pick they certainly would’ve drafted Burrow who has shown he’s a franchise quarterback.

Analyst Peter Schrager asked Rivera if the Commanders thought Joe Burrow would actually deliver on the promise of him being a No. 1 draft pick and a franchise QB. “You know that’s funny. He’s got a certain confidence about him when you get to meet him. You know I met him in person, I walked up to him away from everybody,” Rivera replied.

“We had a nice 5 minute conversation and when I walked away I thought this young man is solid. But after watching him play and seeing him live the thing that I think he reminds me of is the second coming of Joe Montana. He’s that cool under pressure. The young man doesn’t seem to be waivered.”

That’s some high praise from the Commanders’ head coach comparing Burrow to the 4x Super Bowl winning champion, Joe Montana, who is considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Joe Burrow has a chance to cement his position as the next greatest QB on Sunday by winning the Bengals the Lombardi trophy.

The Bengals will face the Los Angeles Rams at their home ground, the SoFi Stadium, for Super Bowl LVI.
