The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had everything at their disposal to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles. They won their Wild Card playoff game against the Eagles in an emphatic fashion and were the favorites in the divisional playoff game as well against the Rams.
However, the Rams were able to put the Bucs under pressure right from the word go. With a gigantic lead of 17 points at halftime, it felt like the Rams were heading for an easy win. However, Brady and Co bounced back in the final two quarters but fell agonizingly short of catching up with their opponents.
“If only Brady could play defense”: Skip Bayless
Skip Bayless, after the game ended, claimed that the offense did everything it could to steer the Bucs back into the contest, but the defense underperformed which allowed the Rams to get on top. “IF ONLY BRADY COULD PLAY DEFENSE,” Skip Tweeted after the contest.
He even went on to claim, “Belichick’s defense cost Brady the first Eli Super Bowl and the Nick Foles Super Bowl – and now the Bucs defense has robbed Brady of yet another all-time great comeback. Just gut-wrenching.” With 329 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, Brady actually didn’t do badly but his defense let him down.
Skip also Tweeted that the Bucs defense was not able to truly measure up to Brady, and after the side made a fantastic comeback from 3-27 to 27-27, a last-minute collapse enabled the Rams to go home with a win. “THE BUCS DEFENSE NEVER WAS ABLE TO MEASURE UP TO BRADY ALL SEASON LONG. AND JUST WHEN HE HAD ALL-TIMED A COMEBACK FROM 27-3 DOWN TO 27-ALL, THE BUCS D LET HIM DOWN ONCE MORE. TOTAL LAST-SECOND COLLAPSE,” he Tweeted.
