Troy Aikman played in the NFL for 12 years as the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Aikman was one of the best quarterbacks of his generation and is a legend for the Cowboys. The team saw immense success under his leadership and came to be known as “America’s Team”.
The superstar quarterback was part of ‘The Triplets’ alongside running back Emmitt Smith and wide receiver Michael Irvin. These three were absolute legends on the field and a nightmare for defense because it was practically impossible to counter their plays and created the Cowboys dynasty in the 90s.

Troy Aikman has three Super Bowl rings. Aikman only ever played for the Dallas Cowboys and won all three of his World Championship games with them. The 1989 first-overall pick helped the Cowboys lift their first Lombardi Trophy since the 1977 season.
Aikman is also one of the seven quarterbacks in the NFL to win back-to-back Super Bowls. The UCLA alum was responsible for establishing the Cowboys dynasty and the franchise came to be known as ‘America’s Team’ for their dominance in the mid-90s.

Aikman won his three Super Bowls in the 1992, 1993, and 1995 seasons. He brought the Super Bowl title back to Dallas after 15 long years and helped cement the team’s legacy with back-to-back wins. His most notable performance came in Super Bowl XXVII where he won the Most Valuable Player award.
The second Super Bowl win was a great thriller, as the Cowboys were trailing as they entered the second half of the game but managed to upset the Buffalo Bills once again. After winning Super Bowl XXX, the Cowboys would never lift the trophy and Troy Aikman remains as the last quarterback to lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl as of 2023.
1992 season – Super Bowl MVP performance
The Cowboys had a 13-3 regular season record and Troy Aikman started to show why he was the first overall pick after his first three seasons were a complete disaster. In his first Super Bowl win, Aikman was crowned the MVP for his exceptional performance. He completed 73 percent of his passes and threw for 273 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Cowboys crushed the Bills 52-17 to lift their first Lombardi trophy since 1977 in Super Bowl XXVII.
The Bills had nine turnovers in the game and Aikman successfully converted three of those into touchdown drives in the first half of the game. Another reason why this Super Bowl was special, apart from Aikman’s performance, was the pop icon Michael Jackson performed at the halftime show.
1993 season – Back-to-back Super Bowl wins
The most iconic of these three wins was the 1993 season victory. The Cowboys faced Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII which was just a rerun of the previous Super Bowl. The Bills were starting in their fourth consecutive Super Bowl, and this time, it looked like they would lift their first Lombardi trophy.
The Bills were leading 13-6 at halftime, but the Cowboys giddied up and came back stronger in the second half. Aikman helped the offense score 24 points, but largely it was running back Emmitt Smith. Smith ran for 132 yards on 30 carries and scored two touchdowns and was named the MVP of the game.
With this win, Troy Aikman joined legendary NFL quarterbacks, Bart Starr, Bob Griese, Terry Bradshaw, and Joe Montana, to win back-to-back Super Bowls.
1996 season – The last Super Bowl win
The star quarterback led the Cowboys to a 12-4 season into their third Super Bowl in four years. Super Bowl XXX was an easy win for the Cowboys against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He completed 15 of his 23 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown.
