“Can’t Leave My Brother Alone”: Tyler Lockett stays in Phoenix for ‘best friend’ Quandre Diggs’ surgery

“Can’t Leave My Brother Alone”: Tyler Lockett stays in Phoenix for ‘best friend’ Quandre Diggs’ surgery

Tyler Lockett and Quandre Diggs

The Seattle Seahawks and injuries at State Farm Stadium in Glendale Arizona are a pairing that have gotten to know each other all too well in recent years. Each member of the Legion of Boom faced injury trouble that in the end, ended their tenure in Seattle. Sunday’s week 18 finale had free safety Quandre Diggs added to list of secondary injuries for Seattle.

Late in the game, Diggs was coming up to make a tackle and got blocked by a Cardinals linemen. The block seemed to put his leg at an awkward angle which in the end is what caused the injury. It was a very emotional scene with Diggs shedding tears on the field seemingly already knowing how serious the injury was. It’s been confirmed that Diggs suffered a dislocated ankle and a broken fibula.

It will be a lengthy recovery but the fortunate thing about the injury is the timing of it. Seattle’s poor season leaves them missing the playoffs so Diggs won’t be missing any game time this season at least. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said “Heart’s broken for him getting hurt like that. But he’ll be back. He’ll make it back. There’s some months in here (for recovery) but he’ll get back for the season next year and so that’s the positive side.” So at the very least there is something positive to take out of it.

“All we can really do is be there for him”: Tyler Lockett on Quandre Diggs

Tyler Lockett

Diggs’ teammate Tyler Lockett who enjoyed another solid outing in Arizona, 5 catches for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns, has said “You just never know when something is going to happen to you and you just pray that nothing like that does happen to you. So all we can really do is be there for him, love him, support him during his journey of being able to recover and get back, and that’s something that I’m definitely going to do.”

The brotherhood is evident to see here and it’s not the first time Lockett and Diggs have publicly been in the spotlight like this. Since Diggs was acquired from the Lions in 2018 the two have been vocal about how well they get along. In this situation, Tyler being such a close friend may not be the only blessing for Quandre as late in 2016, Lockett suffered a gruesome broken leg against the same Cardinals but in Seattle.

He truly will know what his teammate is going through and will be able to help him keep his mind right through the surgery and lengthy recovery process. Again, I’m sure Lockett would wish the Seahawks had a postseason game to prepare for but the lack of one right now is probably a good thing for him as he can help out his ‘best friend’ in a time where he truly needs him.
