After an extended break week, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals welcome Russell Wilson’s Pittsburgh Steelers to Paycor Stadium on Sunday, December 1. Both teams are aiming to bounce back after suffering defeats in their previous games.

The Bengals lost 27-34 to AFC rivals the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11. Burrow completed 28 passes from 50 tries for 356 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two of them were to ace receiver Ja’Marr Chase, while Chase Brown had more than 140 all-purpose yards and one score.

The Steelers went on a five-game-winning run after veteran quarterback Russell Wilson took over quarterback duty until losing to divisional rivals the Cleveland Browns in Week 12. Browns quarterback Jameis Winston had a career game in the snow while the Steelers’ defense capitulated under pressure despite leading two-thirds of the game.

Wilson was economical, completing 21 of 28 attempted passes for 270 yards and 1 passing touchdown. Running back duo Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren combined carried 27 times for 86 yards and 1 touchdown.

The two AFC North rivals have a long history in football. They have met 109 times over the years (including playoffs), with the Steelers winning on a whopping 70 occasions while the Bengals securing 39 victories.

December 23, 2023, was the last time these two teams faced each other, which ended in a 34-11 win for the Steelers. Former Steelers and current Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph threw 290 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Bengals backup Jake Browning had 335 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions.

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens caught 4 passes but went 195 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Harris and Clavin Austin shared one rushing touchdown each.

Why the Pittsburgh Steelers can win?

The Steelers’ attack isn’t the most eye-catching, but they are effective. Wilson boasts a 7-2 TD-INT ratio, which is eighth-lowest in the NFL. He also completed 10 big-time throws (among the top six), just one short of Burrow with 11. Pickens has 52 receptions and ranks 14th overall in the league with an 81.1 offensive grade.

While the offense is nothing to write home about, the defense is an entirely different beast under Mike Tomlin. Spearheaded by TJ Watt, Cam Hayward, and Alex Highsmith, the Steelers rank among the top in run and red zone defenses.

Why the Bengals can win?

The Bengals are the polar opposite of the Steelers and perhaps with the most lopsided team in the league. Burrow has been phenomenal. After 11 games, he ranks third among starters in the league with 3028 passing yards for 27 touchdowns and only 4 INTs.

Ja’Marr Chase leads the league with 1056 yards and 12 touchdowns from 73 receptions.

However, the defense has conceded 36 touchdowns (third worst after the Cowboys, Panthers, and Jaguars). Zac Taylor’s team is second from bottom in terms of conceding in the red zone (only the Cowboys are worse).
