Both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders will like to record a win when the two 5-8 sides meet at Allgiant Stadium in Las Vegas on December 14 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday. The Raiders are coming off one of the worst games of the season, which only saw three points in four quarters. On the other hand, the Chargers were blown out 24-7 by the Denver Broncos.

The Raiders lost against the Minnesota Vikings despite holding their opponents to a paltry 231 yards. Despite the low-scoring affair, the Raiders stingy defense was on show. They were pressuring the Vikings quarterback so much that it forced John Harbaugh to bench QB Joshua Dobbs and bring in veteran Nick Mullens. Edge rusher Maxx Crosby recorded two sacks on Dobbs and almost had one over Mullens.

It was a disaster against Denver for the Chargers. Not only did they lose QB Justin Herbert to a season-ending injury, but they also did not record any third downs during the game. Backup Easton Stick completed his first few snaps and ended the game with 13 completions for 179 yards.

Defense: Maxx Crosby, Robert Spillane, Marcus Epps, Jack Jones, Trevon Moehring-Woodard, Nate Hobbs, Amik Robertson, Tyree Wilson, and John Jenkins

Los Angeles Chargers:

Why can the Las Vegas Raiders win?

The Las Vegas Raiders managed to end their slump when interim head coach Antonio Pierce took over in the middle of the season and won two back-to-back games, beating both Big Apple franchises. However, since then, they have lost three straight games, scoring 13, 17, and 3.

Despite having someone like Joshua Jacobs, they are last in the rushing games, putting up an average of just over 80 yards per game. If the Raiders don’t manage to up their game against the Chargers, then passing games have to be the answer. That means wide receiver Davante Adams is coming into the play. Adams has registered 867 yards on 76 receptions this year, despite just one 100-yard performance. Pierce needs to find the All-Pro playmaker often to break the LA defense.

Why can the Los Angeles Chargers win?

Easton Stick will start his first-ever NFL game in the absence of Herbert. The fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft will be without star receiver Keenan Allen. What was interesting to see in the Vikings game was Stick linking up with Quentin Johnston the majority of the time. Johnston caught the ball only three times but gained 91 yards with 30.3 yards per catch. So Stick should try to link up with Johnston even more.

The Chargers give up an average of 375.1 yards per game and have conceded 33 TDs, despite offensive tackle Khalil Mack leading the league in sacks (13). The area where Brandon Staley‘s defense shines is stopping their opponents from running. They rank 16th and have a league average of 113.2 per game.
