The last time the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions met at Arlington, the game ended on a sour note, which only added fuel to the growing rivalry between these two teams. Cut to 2024, the Cowboys have struggled to close out games, while Dan Campbell’s Lions are as exciting to watch as ever.
They are coming off a dominating win over the Seattle Seahawks, with quarterback Jared Goff recording a 100% pass completion rate and contributing 4 touchdowns. The Lions sit comfortably with a 3-1 record after Week 5 and have the chance to level with the Washington Commanders for the NFC #2 seed behind the Minnesota Vikings (5-0).
As for the Cowboys, it was once again the last-second heroics from Dak Prescott that saved them from losing their third game of the season. Prescott set up Jalen Tolbert, who finished off an 87-yard drive with just a handful of seconds left on the clock. Prescott claimed the moment was special.
Prescott needs a similar sort of performance on a regular basis when he plays the Lions; otherwise, the Lions’ secondary will hound his every pass down.

Why can the Dallas Cowboys win?
Even though Stephen A. Smith believes that the Cowboys will make unwanted mistakes the way they usually do, there’s no guarantee that it will happen. The Dak Prescott-CeeDee Lamb connection has lacked cohesion, allowing the run game to flourish in the last two games.
Rico Dowdle has emerged as a surprising asset for the Cowboys, carrying the ball 11 and 20 times against the Giants and Steelers, respectively. Nonetheless, the Lions consistently limit runs to 90.8 yards per game and have the third-best run defense in the NFL, giving up just 5 rushing touchdowns.
Why can the Detroit Lions win?
Jared Goff will once again be the key for the Lions, as Stephen A. Smith indicated. His 18/18 and a near-perfect QBR in his last game have given the majority of football pundits and bettors faith in him to strike the hammer blow on the Cowboys.
However, the last game was a complete anomaly because he had thrown at least one interception in each of his last three games prior to week four. He is in danger because the Cowboys might have DaRon Bland back in the cornerback position alongside Trevon Diggs.
There’s one leeway that the Lions can explore. The Cowboys will be without Micah Parsons for the second straight game, and Eric Kendricks will also be unavailable, leaving most of the dirty work on DeMarvion Overshown and Demarcus Lawrence.
