The Buffalo Bills registered a historic win against the New England Patriots as they blew out the Patriots 47-17 in the Super Wild Card Weekend. This victory has advanced the Bills into the Divisional Round where they will either face Kansas City Chiefs or Cinncinati Bengals.
The Bills became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of their first seven drives of a playoff game. This was possible due to Josh Allen’s spectacular performance. The Bills moved 70 yards down the field on the opening possession where QB Josh Allen managed to connect a TD pass to tight end, Dawson Knox. After this touchdown, there was no stopping the Bills.
“I had no idea what was going on”: Josh Allen was confused when everyone started cheering after the first TD of the game
Previous to last night’s victory, Josh Allen had a pretty devastating record while playing in freezing temperatures. However, Allen was pure magic against the Patriots in Orchard Park. Bills Tight end Dawson Knox made a spectacular leaping catch to score the game’s first touchdown. After the game, Allen admitted that he was unaware that Dawson Knox had caught his first touchdown pass.
“I thought I threw the ball away. He made an unbelievable play, but I got hit and I got up and I was going back to the huddle,” Allen said. “Everybody was celebrating and I had no idea what was going on. I sat down and I was like, ‘What happened?’” Allen said only when he was on the bench and the video scoreboard showed the replay did he see Knox’s catch.
Josh Allen said he did not intend to throw a touchdown pass
Allen said that he wanted to throw the ball out of the backfield to avoid an interception. He said that he wasn’t sure that someone had caught the ball and scored a touchdown. “Holy crap, I did not mean for that to happen,” Allen said he was elated when he saw the replay of the catch by Knox. “Dawson was in the right place at the right time, and made an unbelievable play.” Josh Allen praised Knox’s play-making ability and gave him credit for the touchdown.
Allen was 21-of-25 for 308 yards and 5 touchdowns and also rushed for 66 yards, while Dawson Knox had 5 receptions for 89 yards and two absolutely amazing touchdowns. On the other hand, Patriots QB, Mac Jones completed 24 of his 38 throws for 232 yards to go along with two touchdowns and two picks.
If the Chiefs win against the Steelers, the Bills will travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs. However, if the Steelers pull off the upset, the Bills will host the Cincinnati Bengals, who just defeated the Las Vegas Raiders.
