Running back is a valuable position for an NFL franchise. An elite ground game will help a team dictate the pace of the game. But there are not a lot of elite RBs out there. Since running backs are often vulnerable to injuries, teams hesitate to spend a high draft pick on them. In fact, drafting a running back in the first round is considered foolish by the experts.

However, that’s not always the case. If there is a good RB prospect available, teams are willing to draft them in the first round and in recent times, plenty of teams have enjoyed success by doing it.

The Steelers drafted Najee Harris in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft and he has been carrying their offense for the last seasons. Furthermore, after an injury-riddled rookie season, the Jaguars‘ 2020 first-round pick Travis Etienne exploded in his second year registering 1125 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.

Most of the positions in this draft class are complicated, there’s a lot of uncertainty as to who is the best player in a particular position. But there is no doubt who the No.1 running back prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft is.

The Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson is widely regarded as the No.1 running back prospect in the 2023 class. He’s fast, explosive, and elusive. Besides, apart from being a good receiving and rushing back, Robinson is also a terrific blocker and has a knack for picking up blitzes.

The 5’11” 215-pound tailback had a stellar college football career where he registered 4215 scrimmage yards and 41 total touchdowns during his 3-year stint with the Longhorns. Especially in his junior year, the talented RB exploded and had 1894 scrimmage yards and 20 total touchdowns in the 2022 season.

The elusive running back also averaged a whopping 6.3 yards per carry in Texas and won the 2022 Doak Walker Award (given to the Most Outstanding RB in the entire nation). Also, he had a remarkable outing at the NFL Combine where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds. Considering all his accomplishments and physical attributes, he will certainly be the No.1 running back to get off the board in the upcoming NFL Draft.

There are plenty of teams in this draft that could use the rushing ability of Bijan Robinson including the Buccaneers and the Cowboys but since he’s considered the best running back prospect since Saquon Barkley both those teams might have to move up the draft board to select him. Meanwhile, Bijan Robinson’s parents are LaMore and Lamont Sauls.
