Why does Damar Hamlin wears No. 3 on his Jersey?

The player’s jersey numbers are not just a digit of identity, it holds a special reason for some to carry the number they choose all along their professional football path. Damar Hamlin from the Buffalo Bills seems to be attached to number 3 for some reason.
He previously wore number 31 at the very beginning of the year with the Bills, however, switched to number 3 just days before the season opener.
The Bills safety player who was playing against the Cincinnati Bengals on 2nd Jan 2023, was met with a tragic turn of events. After he tackled the wide receiver Tee Higgins, his right shoulder collided with Hamlin’s chest. Hamlin fell on the ground and stood up immediately for a few moments before collapsing on the field.
His collapse turned him inert as he suffered a cardiac arrest and was with no pulse at that moment. Soon within seconds of the incident, the paramedics were quick enough to give him the needed CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and rush him to the nearby Cincinnati Medical center. The players were by his side all along and were seen emotionally praying for Hamlin.
It was a shock to hear and see the moments the players went through the time. Hamlin is still under critical care according to his uncle who is updating the media from time to time.
The Buffalo Bills drafted Hamlin in the 2021 NFL draft for a 4-year term during which he was able to prove his position and further was upgraded from a backup in his rookie year to starting safeties in 2022. In the week 9 game against the New York Jets, Hamlin was leading the team with 12 tackles in a 20-17 loss.

Why no. 3 jersey is worn by Damar Hamlin?
Well to the answer, Hamlin had worn this no. 3 all his life while playing football, be it high school or the University of Pittsburgh. However, he wore no. 31 after he was drafted by the Bills. There is some certain luck attached to it maybe that he was quick enough to resort back to number 3 keeping in mind the new NFL rule that gave freedom to the players to choose their desired digit.
His heart and life are now in danger due to the cardiac arrest he suffered at a very young age. He is just 24 years old and the world is praying for his recovery. God knows he will revive to the field soon with more strength and more accolades in his name.
The fatal event in Hamlin’s life has created a mass sale of his Jersey no. 3 on the Fanatics website. All the earnings from Hamlin’s jersey sales will be donated to the Toy Drive foundation which was built by Hamlin keeping an aim to help the underprivileged children and families hit by the pandemic.
The jersey no 3 sales erupted to $5 million in just 24 hours of his accident. This shows the tremendous love that people have for Hamlin and the fans are on their knees just outside the Cincinnati medical center, praying heartedly for Hamlin’s speedy recovery. Fans hope to see him set his mark in near future and shine bright with all the kind deeds through his foundation.
Currently, NFL Fans are seen wearing jersey No. 3 in support of Hamlin’s Health and praying for his healthy comeback.
