After a wait of three decades, the Detroit Lions are set to host their first playoff game, against the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round. Standing with a 10-7, the Rams are currently one of the hottest teams in the league, whereas their opponent Lions are leading with 12-5.

Both teams finished the regular season with good statistics, however, where they head in the playoffs is the actual challenge. In head coach Dan Campbell‘s opinion, the Rams do seem like a tough battle for the Lions, but considering the team’s ability to cope with adversity indicates an upper hand.

In the final game of the 2023 regular season, the Rams built a four-game winning streak as they came off with a narrow 20-21 victory in a tight matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Up till the second quarter of the game, Los Angeles was down at 21-7 but thanks to Carson Wentz, the team prevailed with a one-point win. The quarterback threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Detroit Lions vs Los Angeles Rams Predicted lineup

Well, the favorites are the Detroit Lions as they impressed everyone throughout the regular season and are also a solid team with both offense and defense at a strong position. However, the Rams have at least scored 20 points in all their games since Thanksgiving, giving them an upper hand over the Lions, who have scored 30 or more in four of their last six matches.

The Lions are at a solid 7-4 ATS when they get favored by three or more points in the game, but the Rams would be able to cover, especially with the return of Matthew Stafford which might put pressure on the opponents at a crucial time. Though it wouldn’t be enough for the Lions to lose, but more than enough for the Rams to cover.

Why can the Los Angeles Rams win the game?

With the return of the Rams’ all-time career passing leader Stafford, their winning odds seem to have enhanced against the Lions. If the win succeeds, it will be their first playoff win since 1991. The key reason for the Rams’ improved chances of conquering the Ford Field is Stafford. In addition to him, the Rams are known to be exceptionally fortunate when it comes to the red zone. In fact, their offense finished the regular season with the fourth rank in the red zone offenses, as they scored touchdowns 63.6 per cent of the time within the 20-yard line.

Whereas, the Lions’ defense isn’t very good in the red zone as they ranked 29th in red zone efficiency across the league, during the regular season. If the Rams strategize to maximize their trips in the red zone, the victory will definitely be in their name.

Why can the Detroit Lions win the game?

The Detroit Lions have one of the most productive offenses led by quarterback Goff. He has passed for 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Though the quarterback and Rams’ HC Sean McVay are on good terms, there are likely chances that Goff wouldn’t miss any opportunity to defeat his former team, that gave up on him too soon.

Accompanying the star quarterback are running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Goff’s top target is Amon-Ra St. Brown, the first-team All-Pro. Also, the Lions have a home-field game advantage.
