Willie Gay Jr. is an American football linebacker who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL. He grew up in Starkville, Mississippi, where he spent most of his years enjoying his early childhood days. Later he attended Starkville high school, where he started getting inclined toward football.
His interest in the sport got him his first title of the 6A State Championship in high school. Coming out of high school, he decided to commit to Mississippi state university for playing football. His college career lasted from 2017 to 2019. 2017 saw Willie Gay Jr. also participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. In his junior year, he was only able to play 5 games and missed the rest due to suspension.
He completed his collegiate career with 99 tackles, 6 sacks, 3 interceptions, and a touchdown followed by his intention to enter the NFL draft. Willie decided to forgo his senior year and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 63rd overall pick in 2020.
He made his first career debut against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he recorded his first sack. Due to his injury, Willie was placed on the reserve list, which forced him to miss the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl LV.
In the 2022 season, he got into a few legal troubles like misdemeanor criminal destruction involving his son’s mother that led to his arrest. This ultimately saw his suspension for 4 games in the league.
