Micah Parsons has been the talk of the season this year. His rookie year has been phenomenal, to say the least. However, his first year in the NFL is more impressive given the fact that Parsons played the entire season with an injured knee!
The star linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys recently revealed that he hyperextended his knee in a training camp practice with the Los Angeles Rams and has been playing through the pain the entire season.

When Parsons was asked about his health during the season, he would always downplay his status. In an interview with Bleacher Report Live, he revealed having suffered a knee injury while making a tackle during a training camp practice with the Los Angeles Rams on August 7. “It was at a point where I was like, ‘I’m in a position battle. I’m going against Jaylon (Smith). The first game is coming up soon.’ I was like, ‘This is the worst time for this to happen,’” Parsons said.
“It’s something that just kept lingering. When you hyperextend something, it needs rest. But I was like, ‘I can’t take no rest.’ The whole season I kept rehabbing, rehabbing, rehabbing so that way I could play in the games.” Parsons led the Cowboys and all NFL rookies with 13 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, and 30 quarterback hits in 16 starts.
Given Parsons’ performance, it came as no shock when he was named as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. The star LB received all 50 votes from Associated Press making him the first player in history to unanimously win the award. The Cowboys struck gold when they drafted the 22-year old 12th overall in 2021.
Anticipation for his second season has already reached sky-high. One has to wonder if Parsons won the DROY with an injured knee, what he could do when he’s at his 100 percent. Micah Parson has shown everybody that he’s going to dominate the league for years to come. He said, “I think next year is going to be a different type of hunger for me.”
