“Could’ve been a lot worse” – Devils Jack Huges is out for the season with a knee injury

The New Jersey Devils center Jack Huges will miss the rest of the season because of a low-grade MCL sprain on his left knee. The team confirmed his injury on Tuesday night. Hughes suffered from the injury on 2nd April 2021 after a hit by New York Islanders Oliver Wahlstrom.

He left the ice during the game and couldn’t return later. The injury was suspected to have affected the young player, but no news was then confirmed until Tuesday night. Currently, Hughes is undergoing rehabilitation and conditioning, as reported by the Devils during their game against The New York Rangers on Tuesday.

The 20-year old was sustained the injury during the second period of a 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders on Sunday. Hughes couldn’t participate in Tuesday’s game against the Rangers. The Devils further mentioned as there isn’t much time remaining for the end of the season, Hughes may not be able to join in any other games.

New Jersey Devils have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup contention as it is in the last eight-team Metropolitan division. The Devils are at 24-39-6 in the Metropolitan Division. Jack Hughes led the team with 26 goals and is 2nd on the team with 56 points in 49 games. He has also missed 17 games earlier this season due to his left shoulder dislocation.

Devils coach Lindy Ruff said as reported in nhl.com, “I think the growth of his game has been on a real good scale,” “He’s determined to be a player that can be counted on away from the puck to be responsible. And once he’s had the puck, I don’t know if you can describe some nights the growth he’s had, the amount of time he has the puck and what he does with it. Creates his own chances, creates chances for the players that he’s with. Every night he’s in on the offense.
