Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar held a golf club instead of an ice hockey stick at this week’s Shaw Charity Classic event held in Calgary. His day with the Stanley Cup is scheduled on August 11, so till then, it’s golf time!

The 23-year-old Conn Smythe Trophy winner participated in the golf event, a pro-am PGA Tour Championship held at Canyon Meadows & Country Club in Calgary this week.

Cale Makar teed up with professional golfer Paul Goydos for the tournament, as reported on nhl.com. The pro golfer joked about the fans that swarmed around Makar at the event, in a video posted by PGA Tour Championships Twitter account.

Goydos commented, “This guy seems like…are you famous?”.  And Makar jokingly stated, “No…I paid these people to follow me around actually”. Later Makar explained how the Stanley Cup goes around during the summer and his time with the Cup will be on 11th August, in Calgary where he was born and raised.

As one of the youngest defencemen, Cale Makar won the 2022 Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP followed by Colorado Avalanche’s 2022 Stanley Cup victory, the first since 2001 against the reigning champions the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. He was also named the Norris Trophy winner as the 3rd defenceman in NHL history.
