New York Islanders center Bo Horvat’s comments on his former team get heavily scrutinized by fans on social media. Horvat states it was a “heat-of-the-moment thing”, but unfortunately it took a turn for the worse. Vancouver Canucks started blasting their former captain on social media, as some even stated it’s good that Horvat was traded.
Regardless of his intentions, fans will have a hard time looking back at his jersey with fond memories. After the Islanders’ 4-0 win against Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Horvat admitted to being hyped up in the victory environment, prompting such comments.
During his post-game interview, he was asked how he liked the arena crowd and the feeling after their win, Horvat replied, “It’s been unbelievable. It’s a lot better than Vancouver, I can tell you that for free.”
The comment went viral all over social media, considering how Canucks fans loved him for all 9-seasons as their captain. The fans even celebrated his time in Vancouver, prior to his trade to the Islanders. Unfortunately, his comment came off as him comparing the two teams on the NHL platform.

Bo Horvat states he didn’t mean to hurt any Vancouver fans
On Monday after the team’s morning skate, Bo Horvat explained the intent behind his comments, stating, “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the fans of Vancouver, the teammates or city of Vancouver at all”.
“It wasn’t directed at them at all. (Islanders) fans were all excited, and I was excited to be in a playoff push and it was just kind of one of those things where my emotions got the best of me, and I was just really happy to be there.”
He apologized if his comment “might have come out the wrong way to a lot of people”, “I’m just excited to be in the position right now, to be in a playoff push, to be right there. I really enjoyed my time in Vancouver.”
“I’m not trying to disrespect them at all. I’m sorry if it offended anybody, but I’m really happy to be in this position right now. I’m really happy to be here, and I just wanted to express that.”
At first, Vancouver tried every possible means to sign up a contract with Horvat, but unfortunately, the former captain couldn’t come to terms with the organization. He later signed a major 8-year $68 million contract with his new team, thus saying goodbye to his beloved Vancouver.
The Islanders are currently preparing for their game against the Washington Capitals. They and the Florida Panthers secured the final two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference, prior to the Stanley Cup season. In the 2022-23 season, Horvat scored 70 points with 38 goals and 32 assists in 78 games.
