Vancouver Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau jumps off to rescue the team from the surrounding darker shadows, as Canucks continue to perform poorly in the 2022-23 season. Amidst the criticisms surrounding the team, Boudreau is trying his hardest to keep the player’s energy afloat.
He stated that if the players themselves don’t believe in winning, then no one can ever win a game. True to the words, the Canucks spirit has indeed taken a beating in the regular-season games. The fans are frustrated out of their minds and who can blame them?
The recent “SELL THE TEAM” chant made things worse. Winger J.T. Miller noted that it’s hard to stay positive after watching our game videos. They know best what they are doing. Changes are required, maybe something drastic to shake up the whole team.

As Boudreau rightly stated, “I’ve got to make them think they can win. If they don’t think they can win, then there’s no chance of us ever winning.” A person who has served more than 1,100 games in the minors, with 17 years of coaching professionalism sure knows what he’s speaking about.
Boudreau who thrives in positivity and optimism has found the team lacking both of them. In their last two games, they got outscored 10-2, and the team morale is in tatters. Good thing they got positivity going on, as all players participated in Wednesday’s practice for the upcoming game against Seattle Kraken.
Defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson said, “I feel like you can always be positive, but I also think there’s a fine line about being positive and not caring”. “We’ve got to realize what kind of position we’re in, too, and what kind of games we have to play to be successful. And I feel like we haven’t been doing that. I think it’s always easy to say that we have to stay positive but I think it’s harder (to do).”
After losses to Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues, the Canucks stand with an even number of wins and losses, i.e, 5 wins and 5 losses at home. The Canucks are truly trying but have they become accustomed to losses?
Boudreau commented, “I’m not in there and I don’t know what they feel for each other”. “But I personally never make them feel comfortable if they’re not winning. Same as I told them last year when I got here; ‘Winning is the only thing. I don’t care what your numbers are.’ Whether we win 7-6 or 1-0 . . . winning is everything.”
“You guys don’t see that side of me (but) I give them sh– way more than I want to, but it’s my job. If we have a bad period, I’ll go right in and rip them. But then. . . I’ve got to build them back up. I’ve got to find something positive out of it that can make the next period better.”
