Boston Bruins mourn the death of Bill Russell
The sports world mourns the death of NBA icon Bill Russell on Sunday. The Basketball Hall of Famer led the Boston Celtics to 11 NBA Championships during his 13 years of Boston career.
He further won his last two titles while serving as the NBA’s first Black coach. Even long after his playing career he stood tall as a warrior for equality and was a well-known civil rights activist.

The Boston Bruins’ expressed their condolences for Bill Russell’s death on their social media page stating, “The Bruins mourn the passing of all-time Celtics great Bill Russell”. “We extend our thoughts and condolences to his family, friends, the entire Celtics organization, and all those who loved the Boston legend.”
To their reply, the Boston Celtics responded with a green heart symbol. As noted on nhl.com, a post on Russel’s Twitter reported the passing away of a true legend. Russel slept peacefully with his wife, Jeannine by his side. In his NBA career, he recorded 14,522 points, gathered 21,620 rebounds, and assisted 4,100, including winning eight straight titles between 1959-1966.
