With the National Hockey League (NHL) set to return on Tuesday, teams have started their final preparation for the new season. In one such move, the Buffalo Sabres have agreed on an eight-year contract extension for rising defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. The 23-year-old is now the latest player to sign a mega contract extension with the Sabres this year.
His total contract of eight years will see him earn $88 million. This means he will now earn around $11 million a year starting from the 2024-25 season. This could make him one of the highest-paid players in the NHL going forward. The forward duo of Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens and fellow defenceman Mattias Samuelsson were the ones who agreed to stay in Buffalo.
”I love the city. I love the team,” Dahlin had said previously when reports of contract extensions emerged. This move of him penning down a huge contract sees the Sabres going forward while marking down their key players for the future.
Recently Dahlin admitted how he was scared of playing against new teammate Connor Clifton. He is now likely to form a formidable duo with him at the back as the Sabres prepare for a crucial season. After narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season, they would be hoping this is the year where they break their 12-year playoff drought.
