Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid reached another milestone in the game against Boston Bruins on Monday at Rogers Place. McDavid became the fastest active player to record 50 goals in a season, crossing Auston Matthews’ record. He achieved the milestone by scoring twice in Oilers’ fall to Bruins with a 3-2 record.
Unfortunately, the Oilers failed to secure victory against the Bruins who have been going on a winning streak for the past few games. Nevertheless, McDavid’s record-breaking achievement drowned the team’s losing record. The coach praised the captain stating, it’s hard to believe what he’s seeing.
Head coach Jay Woodcroft noted, “A dominant player. By far the best player in the National Hockey League”. “What we’re seeing on the ice is hard to describe.” Auston Matthews crossed the 50 goals record at 62 games last season while McDavid surpassed his benchmark in 61 games.

Connor McDavid said of his achievement, “It’s a nice number”. McDavid with this record became the first NHL player to score 50 goals before March since legendary players like Alexander Mogilny, Mario Lemieux, and Jaromir Jagr in 1995-96.
McDavid also became the 9th active player to reach 50 goals in NHL. He joined the club along with existing members, Alex Ovechkin, Leon Draisaitl, Steven Stamkos, Chris Kreider, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Corey Perry.
McDavid’s input on ice has often been talked about. His puck control, shooting style and skating speed always keep him a notch above many NHL players. During his last faceoff against Sidney Crosby, the 26-year-old came out victorious.
He is also known as the ‘Next Sidney Crosby’, to which Wayne Gretzky has also remarked. Oilers forward Zach Hyman commented on his teammate’s historic achievement, “It is something you should be proud of, even for him, somebody who paces the League in pretty much every offensive stat”.
“I think it is his first time hitting 50, and that is a milestone to be proud of. He is the reason we were on the board tonight, he got both. He just drives our team. He is the best player in the world. He is humble about it. He has really taken a step in regards to attacking the net more and taking it on himself, and I think you see the results.”
