The verdict is here! Minnesota Wild winger Ryan Reaves is issued no penalty by NHL on his recent hit to Detroit Red Wings defenseman Filip Hronek. The hit made a ‘hit’ on social media as teams split to determine whether it was legal or penalized.
Nevertheless, the fault somewhat lies with Hronek’s attitude towards an approaching forward. It was later revealed that Ryan and Filip locked eyes before clashing. Filip thought Ryan’s slide across him would be later called out by the officials, and he turned his head on the ice.
His negligence resulted in Ryan trucking him into the cold floor within seconds of contact. He needed to get assistance to get into the play. Filip later felt regret for leaving the ground early and even wanted to get back in for the later half.
Ryan Reaves safe from being penalized by the league
Unfortunately for Filip Hronek, the doctors strictly refused to let him tie his gears until a further report on his health was determined. Darren McCarty, one of the greatest hockey players voiced out in for of Ryan Reaves. Among the conflict going on social media, finally, an authoritative voice spoke out.
He stated, “Clean hit in my day”. “Reaves didn’t do anything except his job and destroys Hronek”, as per detroithockeynow.com. Hronek’s actions put him in a vulnerable position as he couldn’t dodge Ryan’s clean hit on time. Though any medical report is yet to be revealed, we hope that the 25-year-old Rangers defenceman can join the ice soon.
NHL didn’t penalize the play, as it noted that according to the rulebook “unavoidable head contact,” is determined by “whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by assuming a posture that made head contact on an otherwise full body check unavoidable”.
Thankfully the forward avoided any punishment by the League, as he is already a veteran in terms of getting fined and suspended for hits on the ice. Ryan was suspended three times while being fined three times as well. It may have been his luck that saved him from the clutches of the League.
