“Excellent chance to give back” – Fully-fit John Tavares hopeful of playoffs woes end with Maple Leafs’ core
John Tavares healthy and ready for next season
Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares stated that even if he’s perfectly fit for next season’s games, the Stanley Cup Playoffs may sting for a little more time. This is yet another season for the Leafs to fail in the playoff run. Unfortunately, Tavares was out of the playoffs after sustaining a concussion and knee injury in Game 1 of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Montreal Canadiens.
While he was sidelined for recovering, the team blew a 3-1 series lead while being eliminated in 7 games in 2021. During the recent playoff series, Leafs stood against Tampa Bay Lightning with a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 series but sadly lost in the final two games. This in turn stretched the Leafs not winning a playoff streak for 18 years.
“Time to work” – John Tavares along with Leafs’ core members ready to fight back
John Tavares commented, “You never get over it”. “It’s difficult, especially when you have the type of hockey team we’ve had and how close we’ve been. You just have to put it in the past and get back at it.” But breaking down in the Game 7 listed the team to become the first in NHL, MLA, NBA history to lose 5 consecutive deciding games in the first round.
The 31-year-old stated that though these may be the toughest times the Toronto Maple Leafs are going through, they will get better, buckle up, and get ready for the next run. As per nhl.com, he said, “We’ve got to just keep finding our way”. “Keep putting the work in and keep banging on the door. And obviously, we believe in our group. We believe that the core of our team is really special. So, let’s keep staying at it.”
On Tavares’ recuperation and getting ready for the next season, he commented, “I actually didn’t feel too bad last summer but it’s nice to know that, as great as that summer was, [rehab] isn’t part of this one”. “It’s just nice to go in and know that’s not part of it anymore.
He continued, “It’s nice to kind of go into this summer with good health although, unfortunately, the season didn’t end the way we wanted it to. So, then it’s been time to work on what I need to work on and that’s what I’m focused on.” “It’s a great event”. “It’s an excellent chance to give back.”
