As the 2023-24 NHL season rolls on, the Colorado Avalanche once again find themselves fighting for the top spot. As the 2021-22 Stanley Cup champions carry on their quest for another championship run, there could be some good news regarding their captain Gabriel Landeskog.

The Avs leader has not been on the ice field since June 2022. His last appearance for the team came during the Game 6 triumph against the Tampa Bay Lightning where they stopped them from three-peating the Stanley Cup. He was recently spotted skating on the ice field giving the fans some hope of a comeback.

The 31-year-old broke his knee and needed surgery. He would miss the entirety of the 2022-23 season, leading to rumors about potential retirement. As the time passed, fans were eager to see him return this season. However, he was still not cleared to return and is likely to miss the entirety of the ongoing 2023-24 season.

This new development though has once again raised questions regarding his future. In a post shared by the Avalanche on X, the star forward could be entering the practice field and then in a separate post was seen skating across the arena. This could signal the start of his recovery progress.

Avalanche GM shares an update regarding Gabriel Landeskog’s return

The Colorado Avalanche are one of the top teams this season. The attacking trio of Cale Maker, Mikko Rantanen, and Nathan McKinnon are breathing fire on the ice field this season. They have not let the absence of their inspirational captain, Gabriel Landeskog, affect them too much.

As the Avs leader was spotted on the ice, questions regarding his future emerged. Their GM Chris MacFarland has now provided an update regarding him.

Speaking with Frank Servalli of the Daily Faceoff, the top executive claimed that they are still gathering information regarding his injury. MacFarland further pointed out that he was uncertain whether Landeskog would return to the playoffs if they made a deep run.

We’re still gathering information, and every week that goes by there’s another step... If we go in the playoffs and win a round will he potentially be a player? I just don’t know.

Only time will now tell whether the NHL fans will get to catch a glimpse of the forward this season or not. The fans though are excited to see him practice and are praying for his speedy recovery.

Speaking on the Avs, they currently are 27-12-3 for the season, three points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the top spot in the Central Division. They bounced back strongly against the Dallas Stars winning 5-4 in overtime following an 8-4 loss against the Florida Panthers.
