Right after the NHL 2023 All-Star break, Monday’s game was quite the opening. After dropping gloves against Chris Tanev, Jacob Trouba scored the winning bout exciting the crowd with his clean hit. Excited with all the ongoing chaos Rangers forward Sammy Blais landed a heavy hit on Flames forward Milan Lucic.
Tensions started boiling over again, only for the second period to get more chaos reigned. Starting only a minute in the 2nd period, Flames Nazem Kadri crossed between the ice only to get destroyed and flipped over by Rangers defenceman Jacob Trouba.
Even the end of the game was a chaotic finish as the Rangers led the night with their scoring points. Some considered Rangers guardian Trouba to be a possessed man of the night as the mayhem finally started settling in. Trouba showed NHL once again why he is considered to be one of the most notorious hitters on the ice.
Flames coach Gerard Gallant stated, “For me, the first hit was a good, clean hockey hit. It wasn’t a dangerous hit”. “You wouldn’t think there’d be retaliation for that, but there was and that’s fine. But the second one, I mean, he hit Kadri pretty hard. It looked like Kadri might’ve gotten hurt. I understand guys standing up for their teammates, it’s all the time. I just think sometimes it gets a little [bit of] overreaction”.
