Pittsburg Penguins forward Jason Zucker is optimistic about the new season after being limited to playing 41 games last season due to injuries. He’s looking for a rebound not only because he’s healthy but also for some additional reasons lingering in their lineup. With defenceman Kris Letang and center Evgeni Malkin re-signed the forward is hoping to skate with the trio once again on the ice.

The 30-year-old had been restricted to 41 games last season because of arresting a  number of injuries. But he has his presence known at the Da Beauty League, a 4-on-4 summer hockey league for NHL, AHL, and NCAA Division I players, in Minnesota. After playing his first game on Wednesday, Zucker noted, “I’m excited”.

Jason Zuker said, “It’s been really slow for me, but it’s been really good. It’s nice to be back skating again, and I’m just excited to get healthy and be ready to have a healthy season this year.” Earlier in 2021-22, he suffered from a lower-body injury after his first 30 games, following a core-muscle surgery on 25th January. He returned in March but following the month he suffered from two lower-body injuries which kept him out of the final regular-season game.

He noted, as per nhl.com, “I was chasing the whole year, and it’s unfortunate”. “But everyone goes through that at some point in their career, and for me, it just happened to be last year. So I’m excited to get that out of the way. It’s a contract year for me, so I’m coming ready to play.” He will be going through his last season of the 5-year $27.5 million contract, he signed with Minnesota Wild before being traded to the Penguins in February 2020.

After Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin signed their respective 6-year $36.6 million and 4- year $24.4 million contract, Zuker mentioned, “It’s really fun to have those guys back”. “They’re obviously unbelievable players and they’re the reason why Pittsburgh has been so successful. It felt right that they were back. It would have been very odd and awkward not having them in that locker room.” Forward Teddy Bluegar said, “To have those guys around again, the leaders of this team, and obviously bring in a few new additions, I think it will be great for all of us”.
